These ramekins are incised “Benwell” and are obviously much more recent make than most studio ramekins. Quite pronounced spur marks but well made and glazed. The only Benwell I know of is Stephen Benwell (born Melbourne 19 April 1953) who lives and works in Melbourne and is one of Australia’s most distinguished modern ceramicists. He has previously undertaken his PhD at the Faculty of Art and Design, Monash University, but so-far, no result has been published as to his being awarded a Doctorate. He has traveled and exhibited extensively and undertook a studio residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris in 1984–1985. His work is regularly exhibited in Australia and overseas and is held in a large number of private and public collections, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia.  It is not my cup of tea though; maybe I should just stick to ramekins.
